Congratulations Gwyneth Paltrow, you are now the happy owner of a Rusty Razor award. If it doesn’ t noise too distinguished, well, you’d be.

Paltrow’ s site Goop, a regular spouter of bunk science, is the very first to win this award, provided by The Skeptic Magazine. The objective is to highlight the worst pseudoscience of the year, as part of the publication’ s yearly Ockham Awards , elected by the public.

Goop reached brand-new levels of infamy this year with its many stories of fake science. They offered jade eggs to place into your “yoni” (that’s Goop-talk for vaginal area, which is certainly a bad concept ). They declared to have NASA’ s recommendation for some phony “ recovery sticker labels ”( which NASA, not surprisingly, formally refuted). And, more just recently, they were offering “ psychic vampire repellent ”.

.

It ’ s unclear which of these claims made Goop the Rusty Razor. Any of them would merit, fact be informed.

.

The site was welcomed to gather its award at the QED Conference in Manchester in the UK over the weekend( October 14and 15). Maybe unsurprisingly, nobody appeared.

.

” We were amazed at rather the number of public vote elections GOOP got for the ‘Rusty Razor’ award for pseudoscience– it’s definitely a popular win, ” stated Skeptic Magazine Editor Deborah Hyde in a declaration.

.

“ When there are a lot of concerns impacting public health today– the increase of measles and whooping cough due to decreased rates of vaccination, for example– it’s a pity that lots of people chooseto ponder their yonis than engage with evidence-based truth” .

.

What piece of pseudoscience rubbish will win the award next year? We can just envision .
